My meanderings about politics, LGBTQI COMMUNITY, space exploration, cars, cats, tech things and whatever else strikes my fancy. To the current occupant of the White House, we will not be taken into war on anyone's leash.
This is what an organization and its death throws looks like. The NRA is money while they are losing membership. they went from gun safety organization in the 60s to a right-wing Russian loving organization in the Trump era.
Oliver North is well known to those who remember the Iran-Contra affair. He lied to Congress and he’s not somebody that I have any respect for other than the fact he served our country in the military.
The day I hear the NRA is snuffed out of existence will be a very happy day not only for the United Statesbut for the rest of the world as we are the arms merchants to the world and that’s very much thanks to the NRA. I’ve been watching a lot of shows based out of Australia and their one take away is that whenever they find illegal guns guess where they come from? The United States. Is that truly who we want to be?
I have yelled at the TV more times than I’d like to think about when Allen West was on spewing his form of conservatism. The NRA must truly be in trouble if this guy comes out and says that both Wayne LaPierre and the new president who replaced Oliver North are lying about access that the board has to financial information. Financial information like the $200,000 in suits that Wayne LaPierre has purchased on the NRA account. What is it with all of these Republicans buying expensive suits, remember Paul Manafort’s?
The NRA started as a gun safety organization and now it’s a purveyor of violence across the country. They claim the second amendment is there right to unlimited arms and yet they seem to forget the first words of the 2nd amendment which say “A well regulated Militia” and yet they negate the word regulated and go for all-out armament of themselves. It’s absurd and it’s even more absurd that courts have upheld this. Look at Australia which had a mass murder in 1998 and also had a strong gun ownership history. They banned guns bought them back and there has been complete drop in gun violence unprecedented in our times. Look at how fast New Zealand acted upon the same issue. It’s funny I’m watching the show called Janet King which is an Australian show that reminds me of Law & order. And season 2 there have been 19 murders over the course of 15 months by gun violence and they have set up a commission to figure out how to stop gun crime. 19 murders! That’s not even an hour in the United States. And by the way the guns were all imported to Australia from the US, any surprises there? It’s making us a hated country.
The United States of America is the number one gun exporter in the world and that’s the legal ones.
When is enough is enough? Sandy Hook, Parkland, Pulse Nightclub, all church, synagogue and mosque shootings or those on army bases? We have become numb to this violence just like we have become numb to the hatred spewing out of this white house and it’s time for a change before we lose our America forever.
I’m a blogger, not an investigative reporter. But I’ve got a good sense for numbers. So let’s see 35 million dollars a year on lawyers, 42 million dollars a year to an advertising agency, 60 million dollars towards the campaign of Donald Trump. that’s a lot of money for one nonprofit organization!
The NRA went from a gun safety organization to an organization that protects mass murders and their perpetrators.
the NRA and gun rights organizations in the US love to say that their rights are inalienable under the second amendment. Have we ever looked at the wording of the second amendment? The first words are a “well regulated militia”, regulations are in the first few words of the amendment. It was never meant to be an all out flooding of the market with high capacity and armor piercing bullets. Military-style weapons should be in the hands of the military. their arguments make as much sense as saying that we all have the right to have our own private nuclear Arsenal.
And as far as these leaked documents, they’re coming from Oliver North, one of the sleaziest people that we have had to deal with since the Reagan Era. He was the guy who sold weapons 2 hide from Congress the funding of an illegal act. Wayne LaPierre you go to bed with dogs you’re going to wake up covered in fleas.
The NRA has become a merchant of death and a very corrupt one at that.
I’m not a psychiatrist I don’t even play one on TV, but this man and his ability to spread lies and false information is beyond the pale.
We’re at a tipping Point. I truly believe the country is ready to go back to normality. The NRA sent out a four-page fundraising letter a couple of days ago saying that they’re about to go bankrupt. I hope that they go bankrupt because they’re morally bankrupt. We see that even the Supreme Court is now siding with gun safety advocates. So one by one we are chipping away at this evil empire which has had a grip on our country. Look I know we’re not New Zealand but they do have a gun loving society. It’s not in their constitution and maybe that’s what we need to change. No not maybe we need to change our Constitution and get rid of the stupid amendment. It was written at a time when the government had muskets and the people had muskets and so if the government went crazythe citizenry had a way to defend itself. I don’t think they envisioned a world where the government has tanks, atomic bombs, cruise missiles and the list goes on. All the AR-15s in the world could not do anything to hold our government accountable. so I don’t understand the need for this amendment anymore.
We have more guns in our country then we have people. I don’t own a gun, I’ve never even held one so to me this is just an illness that needs to be cured.
I’m not sure if this is the death throws of an organization that no longer has support even from its own members or is it Pure evil? A little of both maybe.
The new leader of the NRA is Oliver North. Oliver North is used to being subpoenaed because he was right in the middle of the Iran-Contra scandal that play the rate in ministration. Oliver North is not a patriot, the way I see him he is the opposite of a patriot.
How can any organization justify this behavior? I can explain it to you very easily and 5 letters, Trump. In a week where we saw Rodger Stone put a crosshairs, oh I’m sorry I Celtic symbol, over the head of the judge overseeing his case is it surprising that the NRA magazine puts Nancy Pelosi and Gabby Giffords in it’s crosshairs? For those who had been under a rock for the last decade, Gabby giffords was brutally assaulted during a campaign event in Arizona where she was the Congressperson. so you can imagine how onerous seeing this must be to her and her loved ones. She almost died, we watched it on television. And now this despicable organization has the audacity to do this to her.
and it’s last filing the NRA said that it’s about to go bankrupt. As far as I’m concerned it is not only bankrupt fiscally but morally. women 72% of NRA members think that sensible background checks are okay, this organization still holds almost a black male kind of hold over right-wing members of Congress. Each time we have a mass shooting in this country all we hear is prayers for the loved ones. No more, enough is enough, now let’s talk about banning assault weapons, silencers, bump stocks and anything else that is not part of a hunter’s normal Arsenal. Do Hunters use handguns? I don’t think so. Of course I’ve never hunted, it seems absolutely barbaric way of killing a defenseless creature. Yes we meet and yes that’s barbaric and the country is weaning itself off of it.
Dnra needs to be abolished, rubbed out like app parked out cigarettes. This organization used to be an organization that promoted gun safety and now it goes the opposite end of the spectrum and promotes gun fire on victims like Gabby Giffords.
Even though I was born in the last century actually in the middle of the last century I have never had to go out and hunt for my food. Since I was a child we would go into the store and find beautifully wrapped pieces of meat in the meat section of the store. So to me this notion that you needs guns for hunting is foreign.
So now we are facing another threat to the reason for having a gun. Beers that have been infected with a wasting disease. This wasting disease has not thankfully been transmitted to humans yet. I remember when AIDS was traced to African monkeys. Jumping across a species is not unknown for a predator virus.
So now I need to be convinced that guns are so necessary in our society. Really, what good are they other than to shoot other people? It makes no sense and what’s makes even less sense is why hunters and gun owners are so reluctant to be licensed just like we are driving a car. This idea that gun ownership is some an amiable right was true when the government could not fight back with more than a musket. Now the government can fight back with helicopters and weapons of mass destruction, what good would having a gun or rifle do against an armed government? None!
I truly believe that living in Los Angeles is a privilege. When I moved here almost 20 years ago I was told that the city would eat me up. Instead the city has embraced me. Living in the city where people have the same mindset as you, for the most part, it’s magical.
So once again I’m so proud of our great City for standing up to the NRA. The NRA has become not only a purveyor of death and violence in our country but also a conduit of dirty money from foreign countries including Russia.
Can someone please explain to me why the NRA would be doing events in Russia. Russia does not allow gun ownership it never made sense.
Business in Los Angeles is also a privilege and if these companies wish to continue doing business here they need to start fussing up to how and why they are tied to the NRA.
Growing up in Florida I saw Publix grow from the quaint Art Deco stores that dotted the landscape to a complete taking over of the grocery ecosystem. Finding other grocery stores like Winn-Dixie or Piggly Wiggly is almost impossible now because Publix has taken over.
After living 10 years in Los Angeles I moved back to Florida. I was very disappointed in how becoming a Monopoly has made Publix not a nice place anymore. Where shopping is a pleasure? The produce was bad and the prices were ridiculously high. And I came for Los Angeles.
Congratulations to David Hogg and those brave kids for mounting pressure against the NRA in every nook and cranny that organization seems to creep into. Enough is enough.
As you can tell from the pictures it was filled with violent political radicals, not.
If there are violent radicals in this fight it is truly the NRA.
You can click the link below and it will lead you to the fact checking of the claims by the NRA.
The NRA is full of lies and will do everything to hold their grip on power. They’re only grip on power is to have gun owners believing that we are out to get their guns. That’s not the intention here and it never has been. Sensible gun laws are necessary in any stable Society. Having background checks which can be gone around by going to a gun show is not having background checks. Not putting people who are on the no-fly list on background checks is not having background checks. Allowing military grade weapons on the streets of our country he’s not good policy. My first day in law school my constitutional law professor said something which I always will remember, he said a bad law makes all other laws weaker. Truth.
So yes I was at the March and it was a wonderful expression of love for our children and the future of our country. It was truly of March for our lives. I didn’t get to see the stage because I didn’t want to push in front of the young people who are really the ones putting this on and I was a supporter and almost an interloper so my picture show crowds but not the stage.
Now I hear the pundits question whether or not we will be talking about this in 2 months I say what we talkin about it in two years, I say we talked about this for as long as it takes until this country is like Massachusetts. They have sensible gun laws and if we had the same laws across the country 27,000 people’s lives would be saved each year. That’s almost as many as died in car accidents and I bet you no one would be mad if we made laws that saved people in car accidents.
This was a great day, a historic day and one led by young people and I am so proud of them. They give me hope in a hopeless time. They give me joy in a joyless your last time. They speak truth when truth is spoken by our leaders.
Bravo to the young people that organized this wonderful event.
Today the NRA is like a wounded animal. They see the power of the young people and they understand that the tide is turning and turning quickly. They will do anything to keep selling more guns. A lot of people think about the NRA has some sort of an organization of gun owners. In fact it’s the lobbying group for gun manufacturers. An interesting aspect of gun manufacturers is that they are the only, the only, manufacturer that is not liable for defects in the manufacturer of their products. If a gun explodes in your hand you can do anything about it they are protected by the law.
Yesterday Trump said that he would consider raising the age for purchasing an assault weapon, he also said that he would consider making it more difficult to buy one through better checks. He also floated the idea of arming teachers. Today the first three ideas are off the table and now all he wants to do is put more guns in the school. This is not acceptable. Teachers, and we’ve all had them, or not there to kill a student or an assailant there there to teach our kids. It seems that Trump is doing everything to destroy our schools. He put in an in-depth Secretary of Education, he is cut funding for schools and teachers now have to buy the supplies for their students with their own money. Or his Russian overlords demanding that he dumb down the United States.
Never again is the rallying Cry of the students and they will not except this so called compromise. It’s not a compromise it’s a complete surrender to the NRA’s demands. The NRA wants more guns because the NRA represents gun manufacturers and please never forget that.
