My meanderings about politics, LGBTQI COMMUNITY, space exploration, cars, cats, tech things and whatever else strikes my fancy. To the current occupant of the White House, we will not be taken into war on anyone's leash.
I was telling one of my best friends John yesterday how I heard my last name on television for the first time in a British TV show. it was weird to hear my name especially my last name. And then yesterday all I heard was my first name. I pronounce my name Allen and not with the French pronunciation. In France I like my name to be pronounced with the French pronunciation Latin America when somebody speaking English it just sounds so pretentious. There was this guy who is dating a friend of mine and he kept calling me by my name in the French pronunciation, his name was Charles I told him I did not like that. He was a billionaire so he thought he could do it over and over eventually I started calling him Chuck. He hated it. The other thing about Alan as a name is that it has a multitude of spellings.
All right now that I’ve said my thing about my name I thought I’d bring up what the whole point of this post was. Allen weisselberg my Lord how many times was his name brought up in yesterday’s hearing in front of the house oversight committee. Michael Cohen must have said his name more than he did “mr. Trump”. we know that he’s been a cooperating witness but it doesn’t mean that he has some sort of immunity. And all right think that’s Mister Weisselberg would be very smart to do a Michael Cohen and just stop protecting the president and savehis own neck. You know that Trump would not think twice about throwing him under the bus.
PS Trump org is the stupidest name for a corporation. Especially after the internet came on the scene and had the .Org standing for nonprofits. But of course Trump doesn’t use email or text. I wish h8 would stop using Twitter.
I bring up Watergate on my blog a lot. It’s the only thing that I have to compare to the craziness that we’re going through right now. The one thing that I can tell you for sure is that John Dean’s testimony caused the downfall of Nixon.
At the time of his testimony in front of the Watergate committee Nixon had approval ratings in the mid-forties. Sound familiar? Within a year his approval ratings plummeted to 21%. just like a rats jumping a sinking ship the GOP followed suit. So reading that the GOP and independent voters are starting to soften on Trump is very telling.
I watched the whole testimony of Michael Cohen today in front of the House oversight committee.what was fascinating to me and two other observers of the body politic is that as much as the GOP members of the committee attacked Michael Cohen they never defended Donald Trump. You would think that allegation after allegation that were flung to the committee members from Michael Collins testimony would have been at least given some window dressing of making an attempt to defend the leader of the GOP. But nobody did.
Look, I am more than aware that politicians are politicians and you can’t ask a lepard to shed their spots. to me the reason that President Clinton was never convicted by the Senate was because his approval ratings were soaring. That’s not the case anymore for Trump. It never was the case for Trump to be honest. He has had the worst approval ratings of any president in his first year in office. And even worse he’s had historically high disapproval ratings.
Do I think today was the wooden stake in his heart, no. But it’s the beginning and with a democratically LED house we are going to see more and more of these hearings chip away at the fake veneer of this presidency.
There is a very Fringe theory out there that we are all living in a giant simulation created by the Masters of the universe I guess, just like The Sims video game. It goes on to say that the pixels that we see in television screens and computer screens are actually a representation of our atoms. all that aside, if it’s true, they sure are playing with our heads.
memories of Watergate and it’s incredibly slow progression to the resignation of Nixon. All of the same arguments I’m hearing today were said in those days. Republicans stood by their man until their man was drowning and was about to take them down. But the turning point, and this is not an opinion it’s a fact, was the testimony of John Dean. If you look at a glass of President Nixon’s approval ratings right before John Dean testimony he was at 41%, sounds familiar? Pastor John Dean’s testimony live happens over the next year down to a 21% approval rating and I’d that point Republicans jumped ship.
So all the pundits out there giving their opinions is the only difference between now and Watergate. people may not remember but the evening news was only 15 minutes back then. It was expanded to a half-hour because of Watergate. And other than newspapers magazines it was very few other places one could get fresh information on what was happening. And then the hearing started and I like all of America were focus like a laser beam on the testimony of the various witnesses. In the end we all saw that Nixon was a crook, wire, and not a very nice man.
And then there’s the tapes. Nixon, I’m sure to his chagrin until his death, decided it would be a good idea to record everything that happened in the Oval Office. when people found out about the tapes they subpoenaed them and we waited, and waited, and waited and finally Supreme Court said turn over the fence. When the White House turned over to Pace there was the famous 18 minutes gas in the most relevant conversation in the Oval Office regarding Watergate. That was clearly seen as obstruction of justice. Nixon went down after that.
So here we are in 2019 reliving the nightmare of Watergate except this time we have 24 hours a day coverage of it hands a public spectacle by a man who has no regard for the office that he holds. I never liked Nixon, I remember the day that’s his victory was announced. I was in a classroom and Jane long Jr high School in Houston Texas. The boat was closed and the final outcome did not come until around 9 in the morning Houston time. And the announcement was made over the loudspeakers and you could hear a groan in the middle of the class. Texas was different back then. George h bush was our congressman, and my dad hated him. there was some civility in the discourse and our Representatives knew that they were working for the people. Today it seems that everyone is only catering to their base and not to the population they represent. I hope the pendulum swings and we come back to an error civility and our country’s government.
To get there we need the resignation or impeachment of Donald Trump and then we need to heal. I’m a member of an organization called better Angels, if you’re not you should become a member for their $10 fee. They are trying to bridge the size between the red and the blue and hopefully one day we’ll be back to being a purple or the Kaleidoscope of colors that we are.
Watching the post-apocalyptic White House and it’s inability to handle the new shoes that came out yesterday it seems like there is no one in the White House that knows what they’re doing. Sarah Huckabee Sanders today repeated over and over and over again the same untruth, misleading information, lies. Fox News had what can be best described as a softball interview with Trump today for their Morning Show in the morning. He lied and gave misinformation over and over again.
I don’t know how he sees himself regarding President Obama. But President Obama sure has made an impression on Trump. I want to get one thing factually straight here. President Obama in 2008 had individuals who gave recurring monthly donations and some of these donations went above the$2, 700 limit. In those days in 2008 and 2009 when President Obama was given the reins early for the economy to be turned around and to save millions and millions of jobs if not to save us from a depression it took a while for his campaign to reimburse everyone for their / donations. But President Obama did not hide the fact, as if, that he had had sex with pornstars and Playboy models while his wife was pregnant. President Obama did not then pay his fixer to pay hush money to these women. President Obama didn’t none of this and he did not have 2 give a false contract to Karen McDougal. No President Obama but yet Donald Trump wants us to believe that he and President Obama are the same. As if…
Count me as one of the close to 4 million people that watched Rachel Maddow last night. As well as the record numbers of people that watched MSNBC all day. NBC used to have Thursday night as must see TV, well on Tuesday MSNBC was must-see TV. The Barrage of news coming out between the 1 and 2 p. M. Hour was overwhelming. Nicole Wallace and her deadline White House show had their usual cast of characters. The interesting part was that for the first time I was hearing cell phone notification sounds. That’s because the news was moving so fast that her panelists did not want to be left out in the cold. She did a great job and I am so happy for MSNBC. Perhaps they’ll bring back their moniker of Leaning forward.
Fox News had its head in the sand when the guilty verdicts for Paul manafort and the guilty plea by Michael Cohen were being announced. Michael Cohen got immunity on one count and implicates a candidate, an unnamed candidate in election fraud. I wonder who that candidate could be?
CNN and MSNBC or covering the story in full, while Fox News worth attacking illegal immigrants.
Fact checkers did a study on the three networks and found that Fox News lied or gave misinformation 35% of the time. MSNBC that the same 23% of the time and CNN 20% of the time. Fox News should just drop the word news and call itself what it is Fox Propaganda.
Why does a respectable businessman need a fixer? Well he or she doesn’t, but Donald Trump is no respectable businessman. He is right there with the corleones and his mob like way of doing business. So having Michael Cohen as is conciliary is not so weird.
The problem is now he is the president of the United States. And he’s brought his mob like tactics to the White House. No one has ever done this not even Richard Nixon. This is Despicable and hopefully our country can survive this abomination in the White House.
I am a blogger, and I am in no way a reporter. So what I say is purely speculation. But I can see in my head what must have happened in the minutes as the feds swarms into Michael Collins offices and homes. Shredding of documents must have been frenetic. So it’s not much of a surprise that the federal authorities are having problems putting the shredded materials back together. Unfortunately for Michael corn, who by the way is a terrible attorney, the federal government has Apple resources back together shredded documents. A good attorney would never have documents that needed to be shredded before a federal raid.
CEOs of Corporations as large as AT&T rarely and so publicly admit to doing wrong. This is textbook on how not to run your lobbying of a new Administration. Hiring Donald Trump’s self-proclaimed fixer had to be one of the stupidest things a company like AT&T could do.
When the history of how the Trump Administration fell, and it will be written, this will be one of the cornerstones that was pulled out from underneath this crumbling edifice.
The Trump Administration has not drained the swamp but they have brought in the Clowns.
Michael Kahn and Rudy Giuliani what an incredible pair to have as your personal attorneys. You would think that a self-described multi-billionaire could afford the best attorneys on the planet. I wonder how long this new White House attorney for the special counsel, the same attorney that worked on the Clinton impeachment, he’s going to last? Good attorneys don’t stay with bad clients.
Which brings me to the clowns, Michael Cohen and Rudy Giuliani. The FBI and the justice department run by Republicans would not put in a tap on a phone of the personal attorney of the president of the United States if there was not a very very good reason to do so. Even Rudy Giuliani and his television Fox News appearances has said that Michael Kahn was a fixer and that Rudy Giuliani and his past dubious legal career has also done the same kind of thing. Most attorneys that I know don’t consider themselves fixers, they are professionals who abide by a code of ethics. Something that is completely foreign to this White House.
