I have said this many times on my block. one of the proudest moments I’ve ever had as a gay man was seeing Hillary Clinton in the 2000 New York City parade. she has been LGBT rights from the beginning and making it sound as if she’s jumping on the bandwagon now because she’s running for president is just false.
It’s not like Ted Cruz has been a wallflower. He has made his disdain for the Gay community quite clear. I’m all for apologies, but hosting an event for a Presidential cabinet should come with some homework. I understand that this might be hurting their businesses and why they have put out the apology.
I would love to hear the rationale from the good Senator explaining why the states would ne the wiser to make such an important choice in people’s life. If left to the states, african american would be not voting now. So, Senator Rubio , leave your bigotry your small head.
I must stress, that this is not a politician pandering to an interest group. Hillary Clinton has been at the forefront of LGBT rights well before it was so fashionable.
This one if you scares the religious write the most. They have used this issue to bring out the vote in the past . It will work in their primaries, but independent voters don’t agree with them. Let’s face it the country is the split is 30 percent republican 30 percent democrat and the most important 40 percent are the independents for those who don’t associate themselves with any party. Social issues are the Achilles heel of the Republican Party, and they know it.
Only haters think that this is a thing. we are born with our gender identity and sexual orientation and trying to change it is inhuman and cruel. The same people that go to church every Sunday thank that this is a thing that’s okay.
hypocritical bigots seem to be able to rally around each other really well. They do have a strong community. but slowly they are going to be isolated and the ones left out in the cold. All the go fund me accounts in the world will not help people with hate in their heart.
Supporters of Barronelle Stutzman, a 70-year-old florist in Richland, Washington, have donated more than $94,000 to a GoFundMe campaign that seeks “to protect Barronelle and her livelihood.”
Stutzman, a Christian, refused to sell flowers for the 2013 wedding of longtime customers Robert Ingersoll and his partner, Curt Freed, for religious reasons.
“[Robert] said he decided to get married, and before he got through I grabbed his hand and said, ‘I am sorry. I can’t do your wedding because of my relationship with Jesus Christ,’” Stutzman told KEPR in 2013.
Ingersoll told the Tri-City Herald that Stutzman’s decision thoroughly shocked the couple.
“It really hurt because it was somebody I knew,” Ingersoll said. “We laid awake all night Saturday. It was eating at our souls. There was never a question she’d be the one to do our flowers. She does amazing work.”
Last month, a judge ruled that Stutzman’s refusal to sell flowers to Ingersoll and Freed violated the Washington Law Against Discrimination, which makes bias based on sexual orientation illegal. She was ordered to pay a $1,000 fine, plus $1 for court costs and fees.
Following the ruling, Stutzman’s legal team said that the fine, together with additional penalties and fees, would “financially devastate Barronelle’s business and personal assets.”
Thanks in part to the promotional efforts of conservative talk radio host Dana Loesch, the GoFundMe campaign in support of Stutzman went viral this past week. Thus far, more than 2,300 people have donated money to the florist.
As the Seattle Times points out, this campaign bears similarities to a fundraiser launched for Memories Pizza, an Indiana pizzeria that closed after its owners said the restaurant would not cater a gay wedding in light of the state’s Religious Freedom Restoration Act. The owners said they shut their doors after receiving threatening messages. A GoFundMe campaign for the pizzeria raised more than $842,000 in four days.
Sanctimonious Santorum is back at it again. His veiled hate speech forgets that our founding fathers wanted a separation of church and state. Perhaps he should invent a time machine and go back to the dark ages where he belongs.
The party and the religious arm of the Republican party are marginilizing the Republican party. Even there great white hope Jeb Bush has fallen into the trap. look, Democrats and Republicans are fairly equal in coming out to vote for a presidential election, it’s the independents that sway the vote. Independents don’t like to hear that a party is trying to discriminate against a group of people. I truly believe that the Republican Party is losing a whole generation with their rhetoric.
I know that I am, & I am sure that you are besieged by requests to sign petitions. I try to to sign as many as I can although it always seemed like a gesture in futility. Well one person in Arkansas change the course of that State treatment of the LGBT community. I applaud Asia Hutchinson’s son for the courage of his convictions and the power it had over his father’s decision.
