My meanderings about politics, space exploration, cars, cats, tech things and whatever else strikes my fancy. To the current occupant of the White House, we will not be taken into war on anyone's leash.
I did not watch Chris Rock’s opening monologue. As some of you may know, I’m recovering from surgery, and my body told me to shut down and go to sleep and I did. I woke up about 6:30 Los Angeles time well into the Oscars. Set I have had the opportunity to read the transcript of what he said on stage. And reading that monologue first tells me that this man is very well grounded. He’s brilliant! And what he said about race relations in Hollywood translates across the board. That’s about race relations, not about the fact that minorities are much poorer and less educated because of a system that fails them. So it’s much as I appreciate where he’s coming from vis a vis Hollywood we have so much work to do to repair generations of neglect in minority communities. And not to get political here, but people like Donald J Trump make that repair process much more difficult. If you watched the show and his monologue, read it now and see how maybe through the laugh lines he hit right on point. You see these kind of scenarios on television shows. One would never think an institution, like a hospital, would not be stupid enough to pay a, what I would call here, terrorist to stop their terror. I know $17,000 does not sound like a lot, but for blackmailers that’s just the beginning. I hope this president doesn’t cause other would be terrorist to start attacking other hospitals across the country. AVB http://www.centredaily.com/news/business/article60957032.html

If the rest of the country has as many building cranes on the horizon as Los Angeles. Then our economy is robust. I love exploring this city and its beautiful architecture. This new addition Plus the 38 acre park that is going to be standing over one of our freeways are both going to be architectural works of art. I am very fortunate to live in a city having such an incredible architectural Renaissance. AVB http://www.gizmag.com/los-angeles-sixth-street-viaduct/41641/
I like to call myself a second generation geek. My dad took me to opening they showings of 2001-A Space Odyssey and we watched lost in space than Star Trek and then next generation together. So when it was announced that The Force Awakens was going to be released I wanted to see it in the best venue possible. That turns out to be the El Capitan Theatre in Hollywood. This is Disney’s flagship theater and for this movie they install some great upgrades. As you walk into the theater lobby you notice life-sized Lego statues of the two characters in the movie.
I ordered the tickets a couple of months ago and picked seats smack in the middle of the orchestra. I was excited when the Theatre went dark and was treated to a demonstration of what Dolby vision does for the movie going experience. Blacks are truly black and there is almost a 3D effects to that. Then the familiar sound of laser cutting through material play through the speakers in the theatre and Laser started appearing all over the theater. Then lightsabers appeared on the balconies and on the main stage and there was this choreographed ballet of robotic lightsaber fights that lasted about 5 minutes. It includes pyrotechnics, smoke, and some of the best lasers I’ve ever seen. Then the movie started and I’ll let you see it without giving you any commentary on its rather just to say it’s worthwhile and JJ Abrams did an incredible job. So no spoilers here. When you leave the theater your invited to go down into the lower lobby where they have set up an exhibit of the movies memorabilia.
There you will find stills from the movie, costumes and other memorabilia. For Star Wars fans this is an exciting place to be.
If you live in the Los Angeles area are planning to come out to visit I urge you to see Star Wars at this venue. If you seen it before it’s worth going there again and seeing it the way that JJ Abrams wanted you to. Congratulations to Disney and to the whole team that put together this movie as it is truly following in the steps of how the Star Wars saga should continue. There will be a new Star Wars installment released each year until 2020. This is definitely a movie you should come to see with her friends and I was very fortunate to have my friend David Randall share in the experience.
