My meanderings about politics, LGBTQ COMMUNITY, space exploration, cars, cats, tech things and whatever else strikes my fancy. To the current occupant of the White House, we will not be taken into war on anyone's leash.
I really like mayor Pete Buttigieg. young, intelligent, charismatic and everything that would make a perfect president. You know there’s a but coming.
I have two issues fat mayor Pete confronts him and they are related. He is openly gay and has a big problem with the African-American community.
it’s hard to change stereotypes in people’s minds, especially the kind of stereotype that is Grand into your head every Sunday at church. I remember that wonderful evening in November 2008 when President Obama won the election when nobody thought he would. That happiness was dashed by the passing a proposition 8, Yan Tai chi marriage proposition here in California. People have been reluctant to say why that got past but I have a feeling the high African-American turnout had much to do with it. Again it’s hard to break stereotypes, especially those from then to your head by your preacher.
I support mayor Pete, I’ve given him money for his campaign but I’ve done so a couple of other candidates as well. I think the stumble this summer with the problems in South Bend with the police chief have done some damage to his campaign. Is it repairable, sure, everything is repairable in politics. I just don’t think that’s the Democrats are going to take the chance of nominating an openly gay man who does not have great African-American support.
I read what the historians say in the article and I find it preposterous. Basically they claim that MD 18th and 19th century there were confirmed bachelors who had sexual relationships with men but the historians say they were not gay! I think we’re dealing with semantics here because the word gay came out after Stonewall but homosexuality, pansies and the other slurs that were used in those time periods were aimed specifically at the people we now call gay.
Mayor Pete says that the odds are we had a gay president in the past. We’ve had 45 presidents and approximately 4.5% of the population identify themselves as gay. You do the math.
Historians like history to stay etched in stone and so therefore I think that they may be close-minded to what is a pretty obvious tell in a couple of our presidents intimate lives. I’m not going to be here outing any president and nor did mayor Pete, I think it was the historians who did it in the article.
The more I hear him speak the more I like him. I have made itclear on this blog that I find him an appealing candidate. Look he’s got the chops. Served two tours of duty in Afghanistan, a Rhodes scholar which is a difficult thing to do and was one of Bill Clinton’s achievements, and he’s gay and married to a husband. I’m gay makes me proud to have someone who’s actually being talked about running for president. My friend Fred Kargar ran for president in 2016. He did not get as noticed as mayor Pete is right now.
I’ve donated to this campaign but I’ve also donated to comella Harris his campaign. I think that would make a great ticket. Is America ready for a gay president? was America ready for a black one? And yet he was re-elected twice. I don’t think that’s the issue. He’s young but he runs a city that has a 385 million dollar budget and 1000 employees. How many senators have had that experience over the last 8 years? As a matter of fact does the person that’s currently residing in the White House have this kind of experience, no, and it shows.
Republicans should love him, they are the ones who have been packing the courts for the last 40 years with their activist judges. remember how they used to talk about Democratic activist judges and how they no longer say that word anymore because they’re the ones doing it?
I wish Mayor Pete all of the best luck on his runand look forward to seeing him on the debate stage. If you get a chance go to his sight and donate some money. His site is:
This has not been a really illustrious time for the gay community. Here in Los Angeles we are rocked by two scandals involving high-profile gay leaders. The mayor of West Hollywood, John Duran, someone I consider a friend is under investigation for sexual harassment in the gay men’s chorus of Los Angeles. One of the butler’s that has been so instrumental in getting people elected with a progressive slats is also under investigation for two deaths that happened in his home under the circumstances that involved crystal meth. And now we have Jussie Smollett.
I am torn. Fox in the end what he has done is hurting everyone that has ever been the subject of a hate crime. Even the simple gear of being called faget on the street is in my opinion I hate crime. It’s on the same level as having the n-word thrown at an African-American. He used his celebrity to enrich himself. She already was in the cast of a successful show on Fox. He wasn’t happy with how much he got paid then that’s the job for his agent to resolve. Having said then a sag-aftra agents in the 80s I know exactly how this works and contracts need to be negotiated. But you ain’t what he did is inexcusable. I’m sorry he has hurt everyone who has ever been damaged by a hate crime.
He has played into the hands of the current occupants of the White House. Trump tweeted about this incident but seemed to completely ignore the fact that a white supremacist member of the coast guard wanted to kill Progressive media journalists. Trump says that the New York Times is the enemy of the people and he doesn’t understand that his words resonate with his cult like followers.
If you’re like me, and I hope you are, you have been watching SNL almost all your life. So she did you may have seen this little bit from Michael Che talking about Rodger Stone asking black men to bang his wife. this is from the guy who’s been was Roy Cohn who was not gay just like having sex with men. Being a gay man, that sounds very gay to me. All that being said Rodger stone is a freak and if anybody thinks otherwise, I don’t know about you.
I cannot express in words how much I miss the Obamas in the White House.
As a gay American when we got the right to get married it was one of the happiest days I’ve ever had. It’s bittersweet for me, I’ll be 65 in April and my chances of getting married are very low. People ask me why I never had children, in the years that I would have wanted to adopt a child it was illegal for me to do so. It’s amazing how a government can change your life. I don’t regret anything but I’ve got to be honest to say that it would have been nice to have more of a family around me. I live alone in Los Angeles and my closest relative his in France.
bravo to Michelle Obama for being so open in her book. I ordered you to buy it.
There are a lot of great organizations out there but there’s one that stands out to me in the LGBT political community. It’s the victory fund. The victory fund rooms people for public office. It’s not just a matter of wanting to run its knowing how to run for public office that’s a key to getting elected. I have a funny story about the victory fund. When I was living in Miami I was the chair of a fundraiser for the victory funds. They’re director of the elephant who was their first was a young guy and he put out 1000 posters on South Beach saying that named Alien Berrebi instead of Alain Berrebi. My friends left about that for months afterwards. But it was a great fundraiser and I hoped that I helped in a little way back then.
It’s wonderful to see the progress that the lgbtq community has had and I look forward to even more representation.
In an article in the New York Times it is reported that when John Kasich was asked to be Donald Trump’s running mate he was told that he would be in charge of both domestic and foreign policy. When asked what would Trump do you they replied “Make America great again”.
So if that’s the template for how the White House under Trump would run then we have one of the most Anti gay individuals running the White House in Mike Pence. He is for dangerous and cruel so-called “Gay conversion therapy”, he wants marriage equality to be banned, he is against transgender bathroom bills, basically wants to take us back to the 1950s. If that’s what Trump thanks making America great again is I’m afraid of what he’s going to do with the rest of the issues that a president has to deal with.
This video shows why John Oliver is so effective. I commend this statement that showed before the beginning of the show. Unfortunately that the line of people you saw did not include any gay people. Because that hospital in Orlando does not allow blood from gay people. Even though all blood has to be tested for HIV, Florida is so dumb ass backwards that still does not take blood from gay people. And you know that’s the kind of thinking that makes people think that it’s ok to shoot gay people or Mexican people or black people or any slash people you want to think about. When I first got to France, as a very little boy, after having lived in Houston Texas in the early sixties I saw a black boy in my class. I came home and told my dad and he told me son when you cut yourself you’re ready and when he cuts himself he’s ready. We’re all the same inside. Tonight I pray for all of those who were killed and hurt and especially their families who now will have an empty spot in their heart for ever because of some madman’s crazy mindset. And I hope the next time I see John Oliver I’ll actually be able to laugh.
