Op-ed: It’s Time to Take Gay Bars Outside of the Gayborhood | Advocate.com

It’s time for the LGBT community to end it’s  self imposed apartheid. At 61 I have seen a radical change in the makeup and the lifestyle of the gay community it’s my coming out of 24. We no longer live in specific neighborhoods, we have families and are able to get married. So living in clusters, in part as a means of protection from harassment is becoming a thing of the past. I applaud the Redline bar for its innovative location right in the middle of where you should not be. I was there Sunday evening, left light, and felt safe the whole time I was there. Plus it was an incredibly fun time and great crowd. I look forward to more owners of gay bars finding innovative locations and allowing us to live across neighborhoods and still find Entertainment.
